Feeling a little sick, but loved =) haha

I was going to check the oz lotto thing, but then I can't seem to connect. There must be heaps of people trying to access it at the moment, so I'll wait a couple of hours for it to die down first. Hm. Shall blog in the meantime.

Going back to last week, Friday. It was a night off and finally, uni is over for everyone~ at least for this semester. Night off means... eating! =D There's the usual night markets on Friday nights at China Town, where there's food ranging from tofu fa, coconuts, dragon beard candy and chocolate coated strawberries, to curry fishball, dim sum, and "wolf meat". TT and I decided to eat at TT House instead for evening tea before wandering the streets. It was a pretty cold night, but we ended up at ten ren and having....

Shaved ice! =D Triple coloured.

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

It had mango, strawberries, kiwi syrup and some kind of jelly. Really nice~

Took a short trip to Hyde Park at around 10.. and saw this little monster:
From 2009-06-18-2205-35

XD Rawr~! A possum! It wasn't even scared of us, we got about 10cm distance away from it, and it wasn't even running up the tree.

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Cutest is when it's up on its hind legs with its front paws half bent in front of it. Too bad it kept turning when I tried to take a photo of it from the front.

Saturday... work... Sunday... work... Monday... work... Was catching my brother's flu and having that really annoying sore throat that itches.

(Ah, TT just called.... stocktake's finished ._. and said we won't win the 90 million lotto.... I know that much! Hmph, trying to ruin my fun... Just to clarify though, today is the very first time I ever went and got a lottery ticket. I've never never gotten one before, because it's such a waste of money with the odds you're up against, but then this is just a one-off fun thing, and of course, we got the really cheap one, haha. Really. I'm not a gambler ^^~)

I digress. Anyway, yea, I was feeling quite out of it, and work on Monday was just terrible... but then since when was work ever not terrible? Arrived to find out that HM was "sick" again, which means, great, we're understaffed. I seriously had customers telling me to tell management to put more staff between 5-6, because people get off work at that time and it's ridiculous just having two counters open. I agree. Why don't they take it up to head office instead of telling me ; ; Highlight was seriously the sweetest thing that anyone has ever done for me. TT came all the way from Rosebay to Pennant Hills, just to hand me a bag with medication and a bottle of Lucozade, together with another bag containing dinner: onigiri and inari sushi... just for that two minutes of seeing me... he brought all that, taking close to 2 hours to get there and another 2 hours to get back... seriously felt so touched. I guess that pulled me through those dreadful hours of work. Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Was feeling bored today when I got home. No one else was home for some reason and I decided to watch Yakitate Japan again. It's a good anime- I forgot a lot of it, so it was good rewatching/skipping through it. Then... still bored, I tried to bake something really simple. And it was really simple- took about 5 minutes to make, and 15 minutes to bake. Simple butter cookies! =D I know, made butter cookies before, but these were different.

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

They were supposed to melt in your mouth, but I don't think that really happened. Maybe I didn't cream the icing sugar and butter enough... so there wasn't enough air inside? I don't know.... recipe is really simple though:

Ingredients :
75g butter
25g icing sugar
1/8 tsp vanilla essence
Pinch of salt
70g plain flour
20g corn flour

Method :
1. Cream butter and icing sugar well.
2. Add in vanilla essence, mix well and add a pinch of salt.
3. Mix in plain flour and corn flour.
4. Using a piping bag and a tip, pipe out the cookie into desired shape on parchment paper. If the batter is too stiff for piping, add in a little milk at a time to a more manageable batter.
5. Top with cherries or a chocolate chip.
6. Bake at 160 degrees for 15 mins till lightly brown.
7. Keep in airtight container.

Yields : 30 pcs

Recipe directly copied from here

The shape didn't really hold for me, I think I might have added a little too much milk. But it was still good... I think. My mum thinks that too =) she's been stealing off the tray. As for the "yield 30 pcs" thing, it yielded more like 12 for me, haha. Still, considering how it's so simple and quick to make, it won't be hard to churn out another batch. Slight problem: I'm out of flour....

And I still can't access the lotto site. Hm.

Finished reading (though I have to admit it took me forever to finish it) the Eisenhorn omnibus. Despite what many would think, it's not exactly a trilogy for *cough* geeks, because I'm certainly not one, and it was quite enjoyable to read actually. Sure, there's blood and gore, it's sci-fi, and it's linked to warhammer 40k (mind you, I do not play it, nor do I own any pieces, and I really do not go to games workshop... I walked in once and oh my gosh... anyway!!), but just treat it as a normal sci-fi novel like Neuromancer, and it's actually really good.

No, I'm not trying to reassure myself that I'm perfectly non-geeky in any sense, the point is, the book is good, and people should read it. Written in first person's pov makes the story feel kinda personal... and being a reader, there's nothing you can do to stop the protagonist's spiral from justice of the Inquisition into the dark abyss of heresy. The ending, tragic tragic ending, was, to put it bluntly, dodgy. There are so many million ways it could have ended better, but no, it was bad, it was a disappointment. You could tell, the author just wanted to get rid of everyone. But the book itself was really well-written.

Since taking the Japanese fantasy course at uni, I must say it has kind of ruined fantasy for me. Now, whenever I read something fantastical, or watch a movie (such as the Spanish "Pan's Labyrinth" as mentioned back two posts before), I think of the hesitation, the selves, the "I" and "Not-I", the ego, superego, the uncanny etc etc, rather than simply enjoying it as simply "fantasy". In my head, there's always the analytic speaking and interpreting fantasy in a deeper meaning than intended. Then I think: hey, this would have been a good related material for an essay. That's when you stop and realise what studying's done to you. Not that my interest in fantasy has really dropped in any way, but it's just sad. People just shouldn't study things they enjoy- things that are meant to be enjoyed aren't for studying.

For the past hour or so, I've been shaving....

... my clothes (haha, what were you thinking??)

With this:
From 2009-06-18-2205-35

It's a lint remover! AND it costs only $2.50! That's got to be the most well-spent $2.50 ever, from a hot dollar shop at Hornsby when I went shopping with my mum today.

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Look! It's exactly like a guy's electric razor, except the holes are bigger (I didn't know that, my brother told me... it's not like I inspect electric razors, so.... I was telling him rather than using this, I can always use his electric shaver to remove lint ^^'' because I'm fairly certain this one won't last that long... come on, it's only $2.50!)

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

It's almost therapeutic... shaving lint off my jackets, because I like getting cheap jumpers.. but they get all fluffy after a few washes, especially since my mum likes chucking them straight into the washing machine without reading about how to wash them first, and she usually wash them with a whole lot of other clothes that aren't meant to be washed the way she washes them ^^'' dear mum went and got a lint remover too, the old fashion kind that's like a rough comb for a dollar. I think mine beats hers =D

I don't get why some guys don't shave. I had so much fun shaving my clothes today =) Unfortunately, the razor stopped working all of a sudden... I hope it's the batteries that ran out and that it's not broken already... currently recharging batteries...

Congrats TT! 1 down, and just 2 to go =) Cheering you on! =D

It's raining!

Woke up to the sound of the Chrno Trigger's battle theme going off on my phone and it was still dark. I glanced at the ceiling where the time was projected onto.

"5:32am" flashed in red.

I vaguely wondered why someone would call me at this ungodly hour. Then I remembered the moment I hit "receive".

TT was calling to wake me up. I need to get up for work. chibiru.

The usual face washing, brushing of teeth, set some water to boil, made tea, got changed, woke dad up. "5 minutes". Tying of hair, clip in place, new socks =) then.... where are my black shoes???

No shoes.

I had no black shoes for work ._. where on earth were they...

"You're going to be late"

What the heck. I just put on boots and covered it with my black pants. Good enough. Rushed out the house and... it was foggy. The whole place was misted over and it felt... surreal. Sun hadn't risen yet and the whole place was covered in this haze that it was hard to see the road in front of us. Dad was driving slowly and arrived at Franklins safely.

8 minutes to 6:30am.

Rang the back dock bell. No reply. Waited another 3 minutes before ringing again. The driver of the big Franklins truck with 13 pallets stood waiting with me.

"Maybe they're on strike."

... Yea, I wish.

I was going to be late if they didn't open the gate for me soon, so I called the front end and had someone open the gate for me.

4 minutes to 6:30am.

Staff came walking casually to unlock the gate. Strange, key refused to unlock the gate.

"Wow, looks like Franklins doesn't want me to work today"

After a couple more tries with the key, it finally opened for me. Damn. I was getting ready to go home too.

Swiped on with 2 minutes to spare.

=)

POS didn't balance, but that's ok.
J came late to replace me, but that's ok.
I didn't finish packing the third trolley for Health and Beauty, but that's ok.

It was raining when I got home. For some reason, maybe because of the cold, I was starving. Here is lunch:

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Last night's melon soup with chicken and a packet of wonton added to it. Oyster sauce on the side. Because oyster sauce makes everything taste good. =)

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Suddenly craved fish fingers, so here they are. Oven baked for healthiness, haha.

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Got a postcard from A and D (work colleagues) in England. =D

Oh, and my black shoes? My mum chucked it out =_____= What am I going to wear to work??

An update on food:

Let's see, revisited a lot of places, mainly to "TT House", this hong kong style cafe in China town for cheap breakfast and fast lunches. There was the buffet (oh my gosh, the buffet) at Shangri-La hotel... lookie:

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Plate of crabs and prawns. We went on Friday night (TT's birthday) so there was seafoood! Gosh, the prawns were huge and amazingly sweet *drool-worthy*

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Mussels, sushi, nigiri, oysters~

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

An amateur's plate? =P

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Oriental style plate~

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

Their mushroom soup was to die for! Unfortunately, it was very very creamy and mushroomy which meant... after one bowl of it, you'd be pretty much full. Someone was crazy and had two.

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

They brought out this whole salmon fish with smoked salmon on the side. One of the first to grab it =D

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

If I'm going back there, it's for these. Absolutely crazy delicious Crème brûlée!!

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

A really nice fountain of dark chocolate... strawberries, marshmellows, fruits to dip in....

From 2009-06-18-2205-35

And gummie babies. ^^''

There was the night when we went to Menya again. It's been ages since I went back there... this was the night when TT, D, my brother and I went to watch the 3D animated film Coraline and felt hungry afterwards. It was freezing cold too...

Hm... chicken~ ^^''

Coraline was pretty good btw, people should go watch it, though I'm not sure if they're showing it anymore. Heard there were only two screenings of it for the Film Festival and it was pretty much a full house at the George Street Cinema. Someone recommended the book too, though I haven't read it... might pick that up sometime (i.e. sit at kino for a few hours and read it there? haha) My brother and I were talking about dark fairytales on the train and he told me to watch Pan's Labyrinth. It's a Spanish movie (of course with English subtitles) and... let's just say, it was hauntingly beautiful and scary. So. Go watch it.

Haven't really tried anything new otherwise... did go to the Ichiban Boshi at Bondi Junction because apparently it's better than the one outside Kino...

Noo... =( no one's cooking dinner tonight....

In dire need to detox.

Got off a 10.25 hours shift. It was absolutely crazy. When I got there at 11, the front end was a mess, all the front end staffs were upset, with no supervisor. C, being the cash office backup supervisor... well, frankly speaking, she didn't really know what to do and didn't let -anyone- go on their breaks at all. So, sent people on their breaks, one after another, two people couldn't come in, had to find replacements, begged K to stay (and I owe her lunch now, and a shoulder massage because she kept saying it hurts, haha) till 7, which would make hers a 9 hours shift... worked 5 hours straight before going on my first break.

Those first 5 hours, I survived on a can of Mother (energy drink). That was actually a life saver. I don't think I would have gotten through those hours without it.

The next 5 hours or so, I survived on a bottle of glucose drink. And candy. I think Franklins is slowly poisoning my body.

I didn't balance today.

Got home and had spaghetti for dinner. Except the sauce my dad bought was Olive.... and I don't particularly like olives. Hm. (goes back to candies)

/rant

I don't want my results back for this semester T T

No reply...?

/random

My mum has been nagging me about cleaning up my room(s) and to write music for her. I think after 10 hours of work, you really don't want to be nagged at. In fact, you really don't want to talk or see anyone. You'd just want to be quiet, be alone, and... just stuff the rest of the world.

Till the next morning.

Oh... my gosh.

Last day of uni o O!!

Another arc in L's life has come to an end.

.... nearly anyway... two more essays.... KILL ME! X(
